CBAM for steel importers

Coils, tubes, bars, flanges, articles of iron: the sector hit hardest by CBAM — and the one this platform was born for. Literally: a steel importer built it for their own use.

📈

+15% estimated on prices

That's the estimated impact of CBAM on imported steel. Those who price it in early win the negotiations; those who find out later pay it out of margin.

🇮🇳

India, China, Turkey

The typical origins carry very different default values — and producers whose actual emissions often sit well below their country's default. That difference is your margin.

🧲

The exact formula of 2025/2620

For iron and steel the platform implements the regulation's precise calculation — including the handling of precursors and production routes.

A concrete example

25 tonnes of stainless seamless tubes (CN 7304 11 00) from India: at default values the 2027 CBAM comes to around €2,600. With the actual emissions of an electric-arc-furnace producer it can drop below €1,500.

Multiply by your annual tonnage: that's the size of the game.

Steel FAQ

Are fasteners and small hardware covered by CBAM?

Chapter 73 is largely included, but not all of it: the platform validates every CN code and tells you right away whether the line is in scope. Excluded lines count neither towards the cost nor towards the threshold.

My supplier will never give me emissions data.

Many are already preparing it: the big Indian and Turkish producers get the same request from every EU customer. We give you a template of exactly what to ask for; in the meantime the calculation runs on default values and nothing blocks you.

I buy from a trader, not from the producer. What do I do?

CBAM looks at the producer, not the seller. The registry keeps the two roles separate, and assisted matching helps you link customs declarations to the right producer even when the trader is the name on the declaration.
